Macrocast/ Macroplast Casting

Casting resins for electronic and electrical applications

General Information

Possessing versatile characteristics, casting resins based on epoxy and polyurethane have been steadily gaining ground over the past decades.

Their properties can be adjusted in many ways by modifying their chemical composition. They can be engineered to be very hard and impact resistant or soft and elastic. Polyurethanes generally process easily and have proven their reliability and precision in a great many manufacturing operations.

A casting resin usually consists of two basic components which are mixed and react with each other to form the end product. Systems of this kind, called reactive systems, normally have high strength. In addition, they are easy to apply, and because of their low processing viscosity, they can fill even the smallest gaps.
Polyurethane casting resins are compatible with a broad range of materials. They will withstand temperatures of up to 120°C (with brief peaks up to 150°C). If higher temperatures are required (up to 180°C), epoxy casting resins are used.

Henkel supplies the following materials:

  • Filled polyurethanes
    - e.g. flame retardant products
  • Unfilled polyurethanes
    - low viscosity
    - Transparent
  • Epoxies
    - Temperature resistant up to 180°C
  • Specialties
    - Thixotropic products
