The BONDERITE M-PP Process (former AQUENCE)

Metal Pre-Treatment - Paint Process

BONDERITE Metal Pre-Treatment Paint Process is a chemical coating used in a process where an organic polymeric emulsion chemically deposits on the surface of a clean metal substrate. BONDERITE Metal Pre-Treatment Paint Process (BONDERITE M-PP) is known as the "simple solution" because it reduces the number and complexity of stages involved in painting parts.

A unique feature of the autodeposition process is the formation of a uniform film over the entire surface of the work piece, even in difficult-to-reach areas. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) photos show a uniform, tight, autodeposited wet film before coalescence/curing, and consistent coating thickness around edge of razor blade. This allows the coating dispersion to flow into and around the most complex shapes. Unlike coating processes that require a charge to deposit the coating (i.e, where electrical energy is required to "throw" the coating into recessed areas) autodeposition will coat tubular, assembled, or intricate design areas uniformly.

Simplicity in coating process design and control are critical to providing value. BONDERITE M-NTcoatings can improve the total value and productivity of manufacturing operations. It meets the stringent environmental requirements for today and tomorrow. BONDERITE M-PP Coating Chemicals  is the brand name of Henkel Adhesives Technologies autodeposition process.

An BONDERITE Metal Pre-Treatment Paint Process bath consists of a mildly acidic, latex emulsion polymer, DI water, and other proprietary ingredients.

  • Fewer steps than conventional painting (less space/time)
  • Waterborne process/non-electrical (fire/worker safety)
  • Simple process equipment materials of construction
  • Flexible to variable throughput rates (racking/line speed)
  • Coats only reactive metals (assemblies and R/M possible)

BONDERITE M-PP Coatings are Easy to Control
The thickness of the coating is time and temperature dependent. The coating itself becomes "self-limiting" as the reaction slows with the thickness of the film. That is why autodeposition creates a uniform coating, even in hidden or recessed areas. The final result is a functional coating that is tough and resistant to aggressive environments.

Reduces Need for Rack Cleaning
BONDERITE M-PP coatings react to ferrous metals, but once substrates are coated, they are not affected by the autodeposition process. This means is rack cleaning is significantly reduced, because the racks do not continue to build coating thickness everytime they return through the autodeposition coating process. Less rack cleaning also means significant labor and energy savings for coating operations.
