Plasticizer-free paper and packaging adhesives from Henkel

Diisobutyl phthalate (DiBP), a plasticizer frequently used until now in adhesives for the paper converting industry, is suspected of being harmful to health. The German manufacturers and processors of paper, board and cardboard have therefore undertaken to stop using products containing DiBP. To protect consumers in the long term, Henkel has now come up with a solution – the Adhesin A 78 Series, a new generation of plasticizer-free adhesives formulations for all applications in the paper and packaging industry.

Six firms launch Product Carbon Footprint pilot project in Germany

dm-drogerie markt, FRoSTA, Henkel, Tchibo, Tetra Pak, and T-Home to measure the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) of selected products and services in a major new pilot project. Participating firms brought together for PCF Pilot Project Germany by consortium of WWF, the Öko-Institut, the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and THEMA1.

German Federal Cartel Office imposes fine on Henkel and competitors

In February 2008, the German Federal Cartel Office imposed a fine on Henkel and a number of its competitors for exchanging price information on manual dishwashing detergents and shower gels. Company Chairman Prof. Dr. Lehner expressed his dismay at this violation of antitrust laws: “This is simply not acceptable, and Henkel has reinforced its internal measures to make sure that it will not happen again.”

Skin sensitization tests in future without animal experiments

Phenion, the Henkel bio-research company in Düsseldorf, Germany and the Centre for Dermatology and Venerology at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, Germany have been awarded a grant worth some 520,000 euros by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The goal of the research project is to seek an alternative to animal experiments with which potentially allergenic substances can be assessed.
