Objectives Relating to Focal Area “Health & Safety”

Objectives Status
Further development of alternative test methods that make no use of animals. Further development, validation and promotion of non-animal test methods:
Initiation of and participation in cross-company programs, to promote the research, establishment and international adoption of non-animal test methods even more effectively in the future.
Continuous further development of skin models for testing efficacy so that consumer benefit can be increased. Innovative face care products have been successfully launched. Example: Diadermine AgeExcellium.
Preparation for the European Union’s new Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals (REACH) system. Completed. See Implementation of EU Chemicals Regulation.
Replacement of parquet flooring adhesives with a high solvent content by low-emission alternatives, thereby contributing to environmental and health protection. Because they are much easier to use, the solvent-free silane-based parquet adhesives have now established themselves in Germany – they have replaced nearly 67 percent of solvent-based artificial resin parquet adhesives and are considerably kinder to the environment and to health.
Elimination of lead-containing soldering pastes in the electronics industry, thereby contributing to environmental protection. The proportion of lead-free products has been increased from 5 percent in 2004 to more than 55 percent.
Long-term objective: Zero occupational accidents. 2007: 1.7 occupational accidents per one million hours worked.
