Germany’s best three-year-old mares rehearsed for the Henkel Prize of Diana in the past few days. During the Derby Meeting on the flat at Hamburg-Horn, several horses started which should also race in Dusseldorf on August 2.
An important test was the Jungheinrich Prize last Friday won by Night Magic, ridden by Karoly Kerekes and trained by Wolfgang Figge in Munich, from the hot favourite Miss Europa with Andrasch Starke in the saddle. Miss Europa had previously proved superior to her competitors at the Diana Trial at Berlin-Hoppegarten. “The defeat in Hamburg is not as bad as it seems“, trainer Peter Schiergen commented, “the season’s goal is the Henkel Prize of Diana, that’s what we work for.”
Just one three-year mare, Bolivia, competed against 16 stallions at the 140th German Derby last Sunday. After a major obstruction by a competitor at the start, meant her race was over and she finished in thirteenth place. “We are looking ahead”, trainer Waldemar Hickst said about the mare which had finished runner-up behind Miss Europa but ahead of Night Magic at Hoppegarten, “of course we are now going to Dusseldorf.”
The Henkel Prize of Diana with a prize money of 400,000 Euros will take place on the race course in Dusseldorf on August 2. Only three-year-old mares are eligible. A children’s playground including an inflatable bouncing castle and a join-in circus as well as a Henkel brand course with attractions and prize winning games make the event an ideal trip for families.
The entrance fee is 5 Euros. Schoolchildren, students and pensioners pay half price (€2.50). Children under the age of 16 are free. The family ticket (two adults) cost 7.50 Euros.
Visitors are recommended to travel by bus and tram. The lines 703, 709, 731 and 746 lead from Dusseldorf Main Railway Station to Staufenplatz or Burgmullerstrasse. From there there are shuttle buses to the race course. Those coming by car should leave the car at Metro Parking (Metrostrasse). There are shuttle buses from there as well.
