Henkel official sponsor of the IIHF World Championship

Henkel commits to ice hockey

For the fourth year in a row, Henkel is acting as an official sponsor of the IIHF World Championship. The company will be prominent with its corporate brand, its detergent brand Persil and its building technology brands Ceresit and Thomsit in the ice hockey arenas of Gelsenkirchen, Cologne and Mannheim.

Following Russia (2007), Canada (2008) and Switzerland (2009), Henkel is now celebrating its fourth year in a row as an official sponsor of the IIHF World Championship. The company is supporting the tournament with some of its top brands: in addition to its corporate brand, Henkel’s product brands Persil, Ceresit and Thomsit will be displayed in the ice arenas on the hoardings and behind the players’ benches for the duration of the championship from May 7 through May 23. Hence Henkel is making the most of this sporting event to further enhance its international public awareness.

There are further attractions around the arenas for the fans to enjoy. And Henkel will also be represented at the fan festivals that are due to be held in Cologne and Mannheim. In Cologne, fans will be able to put their goal-keeping skills to the test at the Henkel stand, and in Mannheim they will have the chance to switch roles to that of a goal-getting forward.

The upcoming 74th IIHF World Championship will see the world’s best ice hockey nations fight it out for the ultimate crown. Sixteen teams will be playing a total of 56 matches. Over 330,000 tickets have already been sold and an audience of some 800 million TV viewers around the world will be following this sporting event as it unfolds. The opening game between the USA and Germany in Gelsenkirchen is sold out with 76,152 spectators already having booked their seats – which means that May 7 will already see one world record broken – because never before has an ice hockey match been played in front of such a large live audience.
