Henkel expands its detergent plant in Toluca
The announcement was made during an event in the Government Palace of Mexico State on November 8th, where Oriol Bonaclocha, the President of Henkel Mexico, Central America and Caribbean, announced the investment together with Dr. Eruviel Ávila Villegas, Governor of the State of Mexico.
“The demand for our Laundry & Home Care products grew by 60 percent between 2008 and 2013 in the Mexican and Latin American market. As a result of this increased demand and based on a number of analysis and evaluations on a possible growth of our Toluca plant, Henkel decided to approve a project called ‘Xina’ at the beginning of this year”, said Bonaclocha. The project, named after the Xinantécatl volcane, plans an investment of 35 million dollars into the plant. With the expansion, the production site will have a growth of 109 percent of built space – reaching 29,700 square meters and increasing the production capacity by 70 percent. “When the project is finished, the Toluca plant will be the biggest one for detergents outside Germany. This is the most ambitious project in this region so far”, Bonaclocha explained.
As the facilities of the plant will continue to operate during the time of expansion, the project will take place under strict standards of quality and safety. “In order to avoid any affection to normal activities, we will also have an eye on time delivery and fixed costs”, said Bonaclocha. He is sure: “We can count on the enthusiasm and support of all our employees in this project.”
Dr. Eruviel Ávila Villegas, appreciates Henkel’s investment in the State of Mexico. He also emphasized the company’s commitment to society and environment: “I would like to stress Henkel’s social commitment. Due to the fact that the project will be supervised by experts on sustainability certification, the Toluca plant will be a sustainable facility”.
Henkel’s new strategy, “Strategy 2016”, builds on the successful implementation of the company’s four strategic priorities: Outperform, Globalize, Simplify and Inspire. The project “Xina” covers all four pillars, creating a big impact inside and outside the company.
