Recognition of Henkel’s top sustainability performance
SAM Indexes GmbH has reassessed the company listings for the 2007 Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes. Henkel has now been named a sustainability leader in the Non-durable Household Products market sector of the DJSI World and the European DJSI STOXX indexes. Henkel thus ranks among the companies that have achieved the best sustainability performance in their respective sectors. The DJSI World lists 318 companies from 23 countries, while the European DJSI STOXX includes 156 companies from 12 European countries. The annual assessment is based on an evaluation of the economic, ecological and social performance of the individual companies.
In the newly established Global Challenges Index of BÖAG Börsen AG and oekom research AG, Henkel is one of just 50 companies worldwide to be selected for inclusion. In compiling this index, oekom research analyzed 900 enterprises from around the world. The criterion for inclusion in the index was the ability the companies demonstrated to address global challenges such as climate change, poverty, drinking water scarcity, sustainable forestry, biodiversity, and demographic developments, while simultaneously making use of new market opportunities.
“We are delighted to have gained the status of leading consumer goods company in our sector in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and the Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability Index,” says Dr. Wolfgang Gawrisch, CTO Research/Technology and Chairman of the Sustainability Council at Henkel. “And our inclusion in the new Global Challenges Index shows that our sustainability strategy is publicly recognized. We contribute to sustainable development through our brands and technologies. In doing so, we consider it essential to operate in a responsible manner throughout the entire value chain.”
