Launch of the second ‘Henkel Innovation Challenge’

Coinciding with the start of the new academic year, the second ‘Henkel Innovation Challenge’, Henkel’s international student competition, is being launched. The challenge this time: competing students will be expected to act as creative business development managers and prepare a concept for a Henkel product from the company’s Cosmetics/Toiletries or Laundry & Home Care business sectors capable of generating success in the year 2050. The competition is open to students of all disciplines in eleven European countries, who are now invited to register at www.henkelchallenge.com. The closing date for enrolment is January 12, 2009. Among the prizes awaiting the winning team is an exciting trip.

This year sees the second holding of the ‘Henkel Innovation Challenge’, Henkel’s international innovation competition for students. Interested alumni of all disciplines and faculties are again being invited to register at www.henkelchallenge.com. The search is on for creative ideas for Henkel products capable of withstanding the test of time. Under the slogan “Take a Henkel brand into the future“, the students will be expected to transport a product from the Cosmetics/Toiletries or Laundry &  Home Care business sectors into the year 2050. The competition kicks off simultaneously in eleven European countries: Austria, Belgium, Germany, France, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Spain and Turkey.

The first ‘Henkel Innovation Challenge’ was held last year. Then, over 1,000 students from six European countries submitted their ideas. “The response was so great that we decided to extend it to a few more countries,” explains jury member Ina Classen, Henkel’s Head of Corporate Recruitment and Employer Branding.

The students are required to form teams of three and to submit their ideas for assessment by a jury of experts. The best team from each country will then be given the opportunity to present their concepts to a panel of Henkel’s senior managers at their respective national finals. All the national winners will be invited by Henkel to the international final in Brussels scheduled for April 2009, when they will be going head-to-head with their fellow students from all the other participating countries. Among the prizes awaiting the winning team is an exciting trip. In addition, the members of the three best teams will also be introduced personally to Henkel’s CEO Kasper Rorsted.

The competition will provide the students with an opportunity to forge valuable ties with a major international employer. At the same time, Henkel will become acquainted with a range of highly qualified and motivated talents from throughout Europe. Selected Henkel managers have been assigned the task of supporting and assisting the student groups as mentors, not only locally during the national finals but also in the preparatory phases. As was apparent from the competition last year, this will generate plenty of opportunity for the various individuals on both sides to exchange views and ideas on a personal level, and to get to know each other properly during the competition and beyond.

The registration deadline for the ‘Henkel Innovation Challenge’ is January 12, 2009.
