Fantastic Overall Season for Loctite 

So near…! After his victory in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany, the national one-make racing series, Nick Tandy (26) was among the hot contenders for the runner-up in the international Porsche Supercup at last month’s finale under the desert sun of Abu Dhabi. And even if the young Brit sponsored by the General Industry business of Henkel ultimately missed bagging a double title, this hardly cast a shadow on his overall performance.

Henkel once again premium official supplier of the Dakar Rally 2012 

For the eighth time in a row, Henkel will sponsor the Dakar Rally which takes place January 1 to 15, 2012 in Argentina, Chile and Peru. Loctite and Teroson adhesives and sealants will be used to quickly repair any off-road vehicle, truck or motorbike that has been damaged during the 9,000 kilometres race. To support the racing teams and to ensure that the Loctite and Teroson specialised products are used in the most effective manner, a highly skilled Henkel technical team – so called “Loctite Charlies” – will accompany the rally from the start to the podium in Lima, Peru.

Recognition of Henkel’s commitment to the sustainable cultivation of palm oil 

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has ranked Henkel in the top category of its global Palm Oil Buyers’ Scorecard 2011, awarding the company the maximum score of nine points out of nine. To compile the international ranking, the WWF assesses over 130 firms, including 64 from Germany, in the consumer goods industry and the retail sector with regard to their contribution to the sustainable cultivation of palm oil. The WWF published the Palm Oil Buyers’ Scorecard 2011 today during the annual conference of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) in Malaysia.

Polyurethane matrix resin for automotive composites 

With lightweighting in mind, automotive manufacturers are using more and more parts made from carbon fiber or glass fiber composites. Henkel has developed a polyurethane-based composite matrix resin that cures faster than the traditional epoxy resins.

High-performance hotmelts for electronic components 

Innovative polyamide-based hotmelts will be a main focus of Henkel in Munich from November 15 to 18, 2011, at productronica, the leading global trade fair for electronics production. The Macromelt brand products are injection molded at a pressure of about 40 bar and temperatures of less than 230 degrees Celsius, thus preventing damage to sensitive electronic components and allowing the use of cost-effective mold sets made of aluminum rather than steel. The molding compound cures within just one minute and the components are then ready for further processing.

Cutting fluid problem solved  

By developing a completely new generation of bactericide-free cutting fluids, Henkel has succeeded in banishing the drawback of emulsions splitting in use and the related bad odor nuisance, thus providing a long-awaited answer to a major problem associated with water-miscible metalworking fluids. The new emulsions of the Multan brand have proved themselves in industrial practice.

New additives for high-performance bioplastics 

In view of dwindling reserves of fossil resources, industry is showing growing interest in bioplastics. However, compared to conventional high-performance plastics, these have their limitations – among other things in terms of stability and strength. In cooperation with Tecnaro, Henkel has now succeeded in developing new high-performance polyamide additives based on renewable raw materials that can significantly improve the performance of bioplastics.

Henkel builds new adhesives factory in China 

Henkel held a ground breaking ceremony to commemorate the start of construction for its 150,000 square-meter adhesives factory in Shanghai Chemical Industry Park. The new facility will be the main adhesives manufacturing base in China and the Asia-Pacific region. Upon completion, the new Henkel factory will be the largest adhesives factory in the world with an estimated annual production of 428,000 tons.

At this year’s LIGNA trade fair in Hannover, Henkel is represented as a member of Gütegemeinschaft Dreidimensionale Möbelfronten e.V., a quality association for three-dimensional furniture fronts. The winners of the first interactive Henkel Adhesive Packaging Design Contest have been named. From some 400 submitted proposals a jury of business and research experts chose the three most innovative packaging designs for adhesives. The winners of this interactive contest will receive a cash prize of 3,000, 1,500 and 500 euros, respectively. A special award will also be conferred on two contestants who stood out for their exceptional contributions and fairness. They can look forward to an iPad.

S&P upgrades Henkel’s credit ratings to A/A-1 

As a result of Henkel’s improved financial profile and its continued solid business performance, the rating agency Standard & Poor’s today upgraded Henkel’s Corporate credit ratings to “A” long-term and “A-1” short-term (from “A-“ and “A-2” resp.). The outlook is stable.

Heat conductance and fixing in one step 

Sealants with new properties offer advantageous design possibilities in numerous industrial manufacturing processes. One such sealant that is especially suitable for use in refrigeration equipment is Terostat 301. In these applications the first heat-conductive butyl sealant from Henkel replaces classic heat-conductive pastes to improve heat exchange between the inner housing and the heat exchanger.

Henkel to sell its majority stake in Henkel India Ltd to Jyothy Laboratories Ltd 

Henkel AG & Co. KGaA, Düsseldorf, today announced the sale of its 50.97% stake in Henkel India Ltd, Chennai, India, to Jyothy Laboratories Ltd., Mumbai, India. In an all-cash transaction Henkel sells 59.4 million equity shares at 20 INR each, amounting to 1,187 million INR (approx. 18 million euros) and 68 million preference shares, amounting to 439 million INR (approx. 7 million euros). Henkel will generate a one-time gain of more than 30 million euros. Jyothy Laboratories had acquired a 14.9% stake in Henkel India Ltd from Tamilnadu Petroproducts Ltd, Chennai, India, in March 2011.

Henkel reconfirms 2012 targets 

Following the successful business performance in 2010, Henkel CEO Kasper Rorsted today at the company’s Annual General Meeting reconfirmed the financial targets set for 2012. “Our results in 2010 were excellent. Henkel recorded the best year in its company history. We remain focused on our strategic priorities and are confident to achieve our 2012 targets.” Rorsted confirmed the targets for the fiscal year 2011 as previously announced at the company’s annual results press conference in February. “We expect to achieve organic growth of between 3 and 5 percent in 2011 and anticipate an increase in our adjusted EBIT margin to around 13 percent and a rise in adjusted earnings per preferred share of around 10 percent.”

Polish team wins student competition 

Laundry that gets done in an instant with no noise and with total ecological compatibility while hanging in the wardrobe in a kind of clothes bag – it could all come true with a detergent of the future called Persilan Oxygen. At least, that is the idea put forward by Anna Szarecka und Anna Szpot of Warsaw School of Economics, Poland. The two students made a powerful case with their innovative concept for a Henkel product for the year 2050, winning the Henkel Innovation Challenge in the process. And they can be proud of their feat for, having come out top in the international final of this student competition in Berlin, they have seen off some of the best teams the world has to offer.

Sustainability targets achieved ahead of schedule 

Henkel published its 20th Sustainability Report today in conjunction with its Annual Report for 2010. More than 20 years ago, Henkel made a commitment to principles and objectives relating to occupational health and safety, resource conservation and emissions reduction. In 2008, the company announced its targets for 2012. Thanks to determination throughout the organization, these targets had already been achieved by the end of 2010. Measured on a per-ton output basis, energy consumption had decreased by 21 percent, water usage by 26 percent, and the amount of waste generated by 24 percent. Over the same period, the number of occupational accidents fell by 29 percent. These achievements demonstrate that, for Henkel, sustainability is inextricably linked to economic success.

New laminating technology for the furniture industry

Henkel Interactive Packaging Design Contest 

Starting on Monday, 7th February, Henkel is inviting participants to a packaging design contest. In the Adhesives Packaging Design Contest, everyone with creative skills may submit designs for adhesives packaging. Unlike the usual contests, it will be possible to discuss and vote for the proposals through an online platform; then, a panel of experts from the fields of business and vocational training will select the winner. The best design will be rewarded with prize money of 3,000 euros. The deadline for submission of entries is 18th March 2011.

Planned changes to Henkel Management Board completed on January 1, 2011 

January 1, 2011 saw Jan-Dirk Auris and Bruno Piacenza take up their posts on the Henkel Management Board. Auris has assumed responsibility for running the Adhesive Technologies business sector, succeeding Thomas Geitner who resigned his position for personal reasons. Piacenza also joined the Board at the start of the year, being due on March 1, 2011 to succeed Dr. Friedrich Stara as the Henkel Management Board member responsible for the Laundry & Home Care business sector. Dr. Friedrich Stara intends to take retirement as of the end of February 2011.
