Activities to raise awareness of occupational safety

In addition to our company-wide standards and programs, our site and production managers initiate local projects to reinforce their employees’ awareness of occupational health and safety. Due consideration is given to site-specific circumstances and employee needs:

Great Britain

In 2009, to prevent car accidents, all field sales employees underwent additional driver training.

Kenya
Nairobi

About 40 percent of all employees attended a five-day workshop at which they were instructed in occupational health and safety by external experts. Emergency evacuation and first aid were among the topics covered.

Italy and Greece
All sites

Development of comprehensive communication concepts with the aim of raising the safety awareness of employees. Since 2007, all local plant and SHE managers attend regular workshops and trainings.

China
Nanhui

Our plant in Nanhui received a Safety Award from the local authorities in 2009 for its exemplary occupational health and safety performance.

USA
North Kansas City

In 2009, we singled out our site in North Kansas City, Missouri, for a very special achievement: In the last 25 years, not one day of work was lost due to an occupational accident.

Syria
Allepo

Regular trainings, video presentations, discussions and workshops focusing on accident prevention to reach Henkel’s objective of “zero accidents”.

Brazil
Diadema, Itapevi, Jacareí

Comprehensive health promotion program. Employees are encouraged to perform daily gymnastic exercises designed to help prevent work-related accidents and illnesses.

South Africa
Johannesburg

Comprehensive safety trainings: with the aid of special simulators all employees are instructed in appropriate safety behavior and emergency evacuation e.g. in case of a fire.

Thailand
Bang Pakong

Contractors’ employees are shown an introductory video with comprehensive safety advice before they start work.

Sweden
Norrköping

Our site at Norrköping has been accident-free for nine years. In 2009, the Swedish Institute for Work Organization nominated it as the Best Workplace of the Year for its safety management.
