External Ratings
Research institutes, sustainability analysts, and business journals regularly assess how companies balance economic, ecological and social factors. Henkel welcomes these external assessments of sustainability performance, which result in greater market transparency. Cross-sectoral sustainability and ethical indexes also play an increasingly important role in international capital markets. Henkel’s leading role in sustainable development and corporate social responsibility is confirmed by many international rating organizations and sustainability analysts:

Zürich/New York: SAM Indexes GmbH has reassessed the company listings for the 2008/2009 Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes: Henkel has again been named a sustainability leader in the Non-durable Household Products market sector of the DJSI World and the European DJSI STOXX indexes. The annual assessment is based on an evaluation of the economic, ecological and social performance of the individual companies. |

The “Corporate Responsibility Rating” of oekom research AG published in August 2009 confirmed Henkel to be the top sustainability performer within the consumer goods industry. |

In June 2008, the Ethisphere Institute, New York, and Forbes business magazine included Henkel in their “World’s Most Ethical Companies” ranking list. The companies in the list are assessed in the categories of corporate governance, innovation, executive leadership style, internal management systems, reputation management, and corporate citizenship.

London: For the eighth consecutive year, Henkel was included in the international FTSE4Good ethical index, which was introduced in 2001 by the Financial Times and the London Stock Exchange.

Paris: In 2008, as in previous years, Henkel was again one of the 200 companies worldwide listed in the Ethibel Sustainability Index, in the Pioneer class. This index includes companies on the basis of their outstanding commitment to sustainability.

Milan: In 2008, Henkel was confirmed in the ECPI Ethical Index EURO and ECPI Ethical Index €uro. The indices select the 150 top capitalized companies in the European market (EURO) and the European Economic and Monetary Union (€uro) which are eligible investments according to the ECPI Screening Methodology. ECPI S.r.I. belongs to Gruppo Mittel, S.p.A. and has introduced both Ethical Indices as long ago as 1999.

Hamburg: In September 2007 Henkel was included as one of 50 companies worldwide in the new Global Challenges Index. The initiators of the index are BÖAG Börsen AG and the sustainability rating agency oekom research AG.

New York/Paris: In November 2007, the economic research firm Innovest Strategic Value Advisors Inc. confirmed Henkel's AAA-rating (best level). Innovest ranks more than 2,000 publicly-traded companies from the world's major stock exchanges in terms of their ability - relative to their industry peers - to manage the environmental, social and economic challenges they face. Innovest's client base spans the globe representing more than $7 trillion in assets.

Henkel took second place in the third sustainability ranking of the largest companies in the German stock index "Deutscher Aktienindex" (DAX 30). The ranking was published by the sustainable investment research agency scoris in December 2007. The rankings are based on a comparative analysis of the following seven criteria: ethical business conduct, social commitment, management and controlling, customers and quality, employees, environment, and human rights and suppliers. Henkel was awarded 73.6 of a possible 100 points.

Henkel occupies second place in the 2007 Good Company Ranking. The manager magazin, Deloitte and Kirchhoff Consult analyzed and rated the social responsibility performance of 120 of Europe’s leading companies. Dr. Friedrich Stara, Executive Vice President Laundry & Home Care at Henkel, accepted the award in Davos on January 25, 2007.
![]() Zurich: In spring 2007, Henkel was again awarded the best possible grade - “AAA” - in the sustainability assessment of the Zuercher Kantonalbank (ZKB). This confirms Henkel's standing in the ZKB range of sustainable investments forming the basis for various investment products of the Swiss cantonal banks. |

Paris: Henkel has been included in the Eurozone advanced sustainability performance index (ASPI) of the French rating agency VIGEO since 2001. Henkel’s rating was updated in the fall of 2006.
![]() Zurich/Vienna: In September 2005, INVERA Investment Ethics Research & Advisory AG updated Henkel’s rating to “ethically positive.” This confirms Henkel's inclusion in the sustainability portfolio that forms the basis for several funds, including the PRIME VALUE fund of Dr. Höller Vermögensverwaltung und Anlageberatung AG. |
Sustainability Reporting
In December 2008, the United Nations Global Compact recognized our Sustainability Report 2007 as an outstanding annual progress report. Of some 5000 member companies who submit a report, only 240 were at that time included in the list of Notable Communications on Progress in implementing the ten principles of the Global Compact.
Our 2006 Sustainability Report took the Bronze award in the ranking published for the first time in 2007 by the publishing house Econ Verlag and the Handelsblatt business newspaper. The Institute for Environmental and Sustainability Communication (INFU) rated our sustainability communication on the Internet as exemplary among the DAX 30 companies. And in this year’s report rankings, the IÖW Institute for Ecological Economy Research placed our report at number 14 among 150 German companies.
In November 2006, SustainAbility published its biennial report entitled “Tomorrow’s value.” Produced in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the rating agency Standard and Poor’s, this report ranks international sustainability reports in terms of their transparency and their disclosure of information relating to environmental, social, and corporate management. Henkel is number 42 among the 50 leaders and is the second best placed of the three German companies in the top 50.
