Big ideas are often a long way ahead of their time, and Henkel’s spirit of innovation is clearly apparent in our attitude and approach to sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR). In fact, the business has been committed to this idea for more than 130 years: it is one of our five corporate values, part of our Winning Culture and part of our identity.
Sustainability is firm component of our corporate culture, and require us to balance economic success with social and environmental responsibility. Our brands and technologies enable us to meet the needs of today’s consumers without preventing future generations from reaching their potential. Our goals of sustainability is embraced all the way down the value chain – from raw materials to production and waste disposal – and achieving them involves every one of our suppliers, our employees and our management.

Forward-thinkers needed.
We promote employee development and awareness about the principles of sustainable business, but its success in practice relies on all parties acting responsibly. Therefore, it is one of the most important tasks for our senior management to translate the visions, values, codes and standards of our company into concrete working procedures. We also target employees who understand the implications of sustainability – and in particular those who understand that improved sustainability directly helps us achieve our business goals. Those who share and act on these beliefs are part of our Winning Culture, and will fit in well at Henkel.

Social engagement. “Corporate Citizenship”.
Corporate citizenship is when a company undertakes social commitments above and beyond its business activities. The “Initiative MIT (Make an Impact on Tomorrow)” is one example of employee engagement. In 1998, Henkel was one of the first German companies to support the voluntary and unpaid activities of its employees and retired workers. Under their own initiative, the employees tackle important themes, lending a pair of hands and taking an active role – an amazing social entrepreneurship that Henkel wholeheartedly supports with donations of money, products and materials, paid leave or expert consultancy. The projects that we support are as diverse as Henkel itself, but here are just a few examples: building a kindergarten in South Africa, renovating a mountain village in Guatemala and providing training for socially challenged young people in Cambodia.
