The Quality department at Henkel South Africa (Alrode) has a vacancy for a Quality Control Manager. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for the right candidate that will allow the incumbent to associate and become involved with all functional areas within the business

What we offer

  • Facilitates the process of meeting production targets in accordance to the Production plan.Ensures timeous release of production samples with no delays to Production.
  • Responsible for management of the QC department budget ensuring that the quality control cost centers are managed in the most cost-effective manner and within budget.
  • Review procedures, test methods and work instructions used by QC personnel. Initiates changes to test methods and works instructions that will lead to the most efficient method of testing / use in liaison with PTDCS.
  • Update of quality management and stock transfer in SAP.Daily updates to quality management in SAP and transfer of stock to correct locations in SAP depending on decision on stock status.
  • Block Stock Management and associated reporting.
  • Principal driver in continuous improvement projects.
  • Follow up and report on NCMRS, CCRs and SCMS. Initiate implementation of corrective and preventative actions
  • Ensure Statistical process control charts are trended and evaluated so as to create Quality awareness with focus on process improvement.Set up MSA studies.Identify variances from the set requirements
  • Ensure that all existing quality procedures and work instructions, test methods and equipment are correctly used by subordinates.
  • Identify training needs and arrange implementation of training programs for subordinates.
  • Plans distribution of work depending on workload on a daily basis
  • Manages non-conforming products (including rework/workaways/scrapping) at the Alrode site, sales branches and remote locations.
  • Management and administration of safety and health issue at QC
  • Monthly QC reporting wherever necessary
  • Support the Product Development team and Technical Customer Services team with research and development initiatives
  • Management of batch supervision activities whenever necessary
  • Management of the calibration schedule
  • Management of Master Data for Quality Management in SAP
  • Manages the rework activities for the laboratory
  • Assumes overall management of customer returns
  • Maintain and improve the 5S standard of the Quality Control Laboratory
  • Perform internal process audits and ISO 9001 system audits
  • Ensures that the correct PPE and general safety rules are adhered to in the laboratory

Who we are looking for

  • Science Qualification (B.Sc Chemistry) Degree/Diploma
  • 3-5 years managerial experience and 5- 10 years overall work experience.
  • Excellent command of the English language, MS Office, ISO 9001 and IATF 16949
  • Must have strong interpersonal relationships and be able to work closely with team members from all departments.
  • Ability to provide supervision to Quality Control Technicians
  • Ability to liaise with plant operators and manufacturing management on any production related matters as well as the ability to liaise with Business on Product related issues.
  • Use of SAP (mandatory)
  • Customer Focus and Team work
  • Be familiar to chemical manufacturing processes and procedures
  • Have an in depth understanding of adhesive formulation.
  • Capable of performing physical and chemical analysis
  • Through knowledge of applications and products
  • Through knowledge of lab equipment used
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills
  • The ability to improve operational performance through small teams
  • Manufacturing industry experience.
  • Good understanding of master data standards in SAP
