  • Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. 
  • Reverse engineer components to include creating in AutoCAD or Solid Works; program CNC equipment to reproduce components.
  • Advise in the method of repairing equipment in regards to specific parts to restore equipment to peak performance.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut.
  • Enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media according to established guidelines and procedures.
  • Design, build, rebuild, and modify equipment with the approval of upper management.
  • Validate equipment safeguards are installed as needed, and conform and adhere to all company, state, and federal regulations.
  • Follow all lockout/tag out procedures as mandated by plant policy.


  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 4 Year Vocational or Technical School certification/ apprenticeship program or 5+ years’ experience machining. 
  • 3+ years of experience as a CNC machinist programmer in an industrial or manufacturing environment or a fast-paced service company dedicated to emergency repair in a production type facility. 
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Ability to configure mills and lathes by entering instructions related to: 
  • Zero and reference points
  • Set tool registers
  • Offsets 
  • Compensation
  • Conditional switches 
  • Calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
