This position will primarily provide Product Development (PD) support to Sealing & Coating products. The PD Research Chemist will provide leadership and technical support for projects which support sales and profitability growth for the automotive OEM business. This position works closely within a similarly focused team to support business opportunities and product development and maintenance of a variety of technologies. Additionally, this role will provide proven technical expertise and training to internal/external customers. Focus area will be PD projects for this technology cluster with a focus on improving the quality of the cost efficiency of the product line through complexity reduction and incremental improvements in line with the customer / market demand.

  • Designing and developing specialized Sealants & Coatings for the Body in White market (example: Sealing Body/Paint, UBC, LASD) with a focus on conducting research that may result in patentable technology to meet market and North American customer needs.
  • Providing technical product support to Marketing, Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing and other Product Development staff as needed.
  • Working with internal and external customers to define needs and potential applications of technology. Creating and maintaining product development strategies to support the business direction. Advising senior management on current and future business opportunities.
  • Attending customer meetings and commercial trials.
  • Managing multiple projects while meeting the timing for development, scale-up and commercialization of assigned projects.
  • Serving as the Technical Expert in North America/globally to support the current portfolio and new products.
  • Flexibility to learn adjacent areas in keeping with company direction and investment strategy.
  • Travel to Mexico to support our team in Mexico.


  • BS or MS Degree in Chemistry and or Chemical Engineering.
  • Five to ten years of product development experience in sealant/adhesive formulating with a focus on automotive assembly or similar industries
  • Proven ability to bring products to market on schedule.
  • Self-motivated individual with ability for team leadership.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Spanish is needed.
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally.
