Traffic Coordinator

  • Book and schedule freight pick-up with international freight forwarders, domestic air, and surface carriers.
    • Provide freight routing and status information to freight forwarders, carriers, customer service, sales offices and customers as required, through faxing, e-mail, and other web-based status systems.
    • Prepare, print, assemble and execute Miscellaneous Shipping Orders (MSO; also referred to as Manual/ Straight Bill of Lading) documentation for domestic and international plant support shipments in compliance with all applicable company and regulatory standards.
    • Schedule and execute stock transfer and sub-contracts orders
    • Maintain current carriers, Freight Forwarders, Brokers, Customs Clearance Agents, Supplier Contacts, subject matter experts, and departmental personnel contact listings
  • Research dangerous goods regulations, and prepare the Shippers Declaration of Dangerous Goods.
  • Electronically file Shippers Export Declaration (SED) through automated export systems and match ITN numbers to the correct shipping documents as evidence of compliance.  Work with logistics and material planners as needed to ensure smooth customs clearance/ pre-clearance of any imported materials.
  • Key contact for customer service on all shipping related sales order issues, SAP data/ system errors and status concerns of assigned accounts with customer service, quality, shipping, and planning departments.  Work with accounting and customer service to resolve all credit and shipping blocks.
  • Prepare domestic and international FedEx and UPS way bills
    • FedEx and UPS Manifest system administrator
  • Recordkeeping
    • Work with Distribution Supervisor and lead material handlers by providing document control in accordance with company guidelines for document retention/ retrieval and ongoing updates to departmental SOP’s.
  • Order and manage the purchase of indirect materials and miscellaneous warehouse supplies
  • Support plant safety and 5S standards by maintaining a safe and sanitary work area.
  • Investigate customer complaints and discrepancies, participate and lead problem solving initiatives and action items.


·         AA degree or a formal export/logistics certification in lieu of a full degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Hazardous Chemicals experience and 5+ years traffic experience; preferably within a manufacturing environment.  SAP preferred.

·Experience with problem solving methods, such as Fishbone or 5 Why

·Proficient in the certification and preparation of dangerous goods documentation for domestic and international transport in all modes

§International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG)

§Air Transport (IATA)

§Department of Transportation (DOT)

·Basic training on ITAR and  Export Controls

·Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

  •  Must exemplify strong initiative for completing a task

·Ability to effectively analyze and determine if supplied freight routing information results in the most cost effective, and direct arrival to final destination, for both single and consolidated shipments. General understanding of U.S. export and import regulations.

·Extensive hands on experience with ERP business system

·Top organizational skills for simultaneously managing documentation, high volume phone, and system data input, with a strong follow-up discipline.

  • Ability to manage, prioritize and execute multiple responsibilities within a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Exemplify commitment to and provide leadership to improve workplace safety on a continual basis.

·Must sit and stand alternately up to as much as 12 hours per day. Must be able to  routinely  lift up to 50 pounds. Seeing, grasping, handling, typing, hearing, and speaking necessary
