  • Have the great opportunity to write your PhD thesis at Henkel Hamburg - possibility of writing a Bachelor or Master thesis prior can be discussed
  • Investigate the failure and fatigue of hair by suitable experimental and synergistic approaches
  • Optimize experimental approaches of increasing complexity and develop suitable theoretical tools for high-precision data analysis
  • Assess and distinguish "damage & repair" effects of basic as well as advanced concepts for cosmetic processes and products with those tools
  • Validate concepts based on your research results
  • Play a role during this synergistic, multi-focus approach and lead your research and find direct applications for the hair cosmetic product development


  • Student in the last Bachelor or preferably Master semester of chemistry, chemical engineering, cosmetic science, materials or polymers, who wants to carry out a PhD in the area of hair care
  • Additional background in physics is welcomed
  • Additional background in Statistical Data Analysis, Design of Experiments and Machine Learning is an advantage
  • Strong understanding of hair care instrumental methods like fatigue, tensile strength, differential scanning calorimentry and classical microscopial methods and more generally of the impact of mechanical and chemical stress on hair fibers
  • Very good English language skills, especially in presentation
  • Good organizational and problem-solving skills as well as a goal-oriented approach
  • Desire to take on a high level of responsibility and put the knowledge gained during studies into practice
  • Preferred starting date: September - December 2020
