This role reports directly to the Safety Health Environment Manager within the SHE Department; team also consists of a SHE Specialist (Safety and Culture Based Safety) and Training Coordinator (previously SHE Specialist). As one SHE Specialist has focus/deliverables related to industrial safety/health/culture based safety, this SHE Specialist will reflectively have focus/deliverables related to environmental compliance/metric reporting.

The scope includes, but not limited to:

  • Managing the Monthly Compliance Tracker to ensure tasks related to compliance are completed on time or engage resources as-needed; keep management informed of status
  • Participate in applicable internal/external auditing activities
  • Populate manage monthly metric reporting within Corporate database system and occasional Corporate surveys
  • Collaborate with applicable personnel to complete various inspections to protect the people/environment, as well as compliance/auditing requirements
  • Collaborating with applicable regulatory agencies
  • Provide back-up to other SHE Department personnel

Physical Aspects

  • Primarily Monday – Friday (8-5pm), however facility is 24/7 and our personnel benefit from having access to SHE Department when needed
  • A good balance between office and production floor activities, however greatest success found being ‘in the field’ and creating value there
  • Production are frequently open to the outside environment
  • Normal levels of exertion and functionality
  • Basic PPE provided at no cost; expected to be worn when applicable 100% of the time


Education and Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree (major or minor in environmental management or similar strongly preferred)
  • Functional experience with early-career environmental management tasks and responsibilities
  • Experience with completing compliance-related tasks and permitting regarding common regulatory agencies in California Bay Area (Contra Costa County)
  • Common Microsoft Office-related tools

Preferred Qualities:

  • Functional experience with:
    Regulatory agencies and reporting/permitting such as, but not limited to BAAQMD, CCHS, CUPA, DTSC, HMBP, SWPPP, MSDSs, CalEPA, Wastewater Agency, State Water Board, Hazardous Waste manifest management/processing, and utilities
  • Corporate environmental metrics reporting
  • Industrial hygiene monitoring/management
  • Environmental improvement projects (resource conservation, alternative energy, employee awareness, waste reduction)
  • Industrial safety/health compliance and improvement (Fed/CalOSHA, ANSI)
  • Internship experience with regulatory agencies, chemical-related manufacturing or civil engineering
