The Principle Packaging Engineer is capable of managing all packaging aspects for a business unit. Is seen as a technical expert in the field and is a key technical lead on project teams. Provides technical expertise within the packaging functional team. Identifies and assesses complex technical problems and provides solutions and recommendations. Manages BU packaging priorities and resources. Holds a technical leadership role on the packaging functional team by developing their own competencies and inspiring technical competency in others. Provides clear technical direction and sets priorities. Serves as a technical mentor to junior engineers. Develops a clear, defined area of expertise for which they are the SME.
•Develops and designs new packaging for safe, convenient, and attractive transport of products. Develops packaging material standards and specifications.
•Ensures compliance with safety and quality standards. Evaluates and recommends efficient packaging procedures, innovations and packaging materials, and utilization of automation where needed.
•Develops engineering drawings and specifications with suppliers to determine materials and design required to maximize convenience, utility and function based on the product's physical characteristics, including safety and special handling requirements.
•Designs and coordinates laboratory tests, plant trials, to assess technical feasibility in the qualification of new materials and equipment.
•Provides technical support to ensure quality standards, package performance, and continued supply of products and packaging materials. Participates on continuous improvement teams.
•Oversee the coordination of activities at contract packaging and labeling sites.
•Oversees exterior package design to ensure proper product identification, consumer appeal, and production techniques.
•Provides continuous cost optimization to brands.
The salary for this role is $100,000.00 - $125,000.00. This is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Connecticut. This salary range may also be modified in the future.
