Principle Regulatory Specialist

Your Role

In coordination with Henkel’s North America Regulatory Affairs team, this position will participate in policy-making discussions within the company, at our key trade associations, and with various levels of government as necessary. This position will lead product compliance for Canadian and the US regulatory functions impacting:
  • Labeling
  • Product development
  • Package development
  • SDS and ingredients statement generation
  • Customer regulatory compliance needs
  • Consumer regulatory inquiries
This individual will:
  • Consult and educate on the appropriate application of the regulations to business units.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and analysis of compliance programs.
  • Expand and enhance product regulatory compliance.
  • Organize and maintain an effective regulatory program, focusing on continuous improvement.
  • Identify issues and implement associated compliance processes aligned with current and recently introduced legislation and regulations.
  • Evaluate regulatory risks associated with Corporate and North American policies and practices and proactively communicate to organization, where feasible.
  • Proactively guide product development based on current and evolving legislation.
  • Represent JemPak/Henkel's product regulatory compliance interests with regulatory agencies as well as trade associations.
  • Perform raw material, formulation and packaging regulatory evaluations to confirm compliance with requirements.
  • Review and approve label copy and artwork to confirm compliance with requirements.
  • Monitor, document and communicate the impact of proposed US and Canadian legislation on JemPak/Henkel’s laundry and home care products.
  • Participate in trade associations and/or alliances to support JemPak/Henkel’s laundry and home care needs, as directed by management.
  • Partner with key parties, including but not limited to Marketing, Legal, and Product Development.
  • Provide regulatory input in support of product development, ensuring regulatory requirements are communicated and elevated, where appropriate.
  • Support QA and Manufacturing related to inspections, recalls, and product reviews by regulatory agencies.
  • Develop processes/procedures as necessary to support regulatory compliance.
  • Manage consultants who provide regulatory support services.
  • Works with cross-functional partners in Canada, US and EU to proactively address issues.
  • Keep Management informed of critical issues and proposed solutions within responsible R&D groups on a regular basis.
  • Prepare as a team member for internal audits and inspections and participate in external audits and inspections.
  • Provide support to the external consultant for environmental monitoring, licensing and reporting.

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, environmental science, engineering, or related field.

  • Minimum of three years of regulatory experience with a company producing home cleaning products or similar industry.

  • Knowledge of packaging components and raw materials used for laundry detergent or household cleaning products.

  • Familiarity with key Canadian and US federal, provincial, and state regulations.

  • Problem solving: identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully, and maintains confidentiality.

  • Interpersonal skills: maintains confidentiality, remains open to others' ideas, and exhibits willingness to try new things.

  • Effective communication: demonstrated group presentation skills and effective written communication.

  • Quality control: demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality.

  • The physical requirements of this job are consistent with an office job.

  • Significant amount of time at a computer station.

  • On rare occasions there is a need to lift up to twenty pounds.
