Interview with Theresia, University of Augsburg

Which important tasks we are distracting you from with this interview?
Right now, I am proofreading the new brochure for “Shaping Futures”. It is a worldwide social initiative that brings Schwarzkopf Professional together with SOS Children’s Village to introduce cosmetology to disadvantaged youngsters and give them the support they need to bring in new chances in life.

Tell us what surprised you the most about your internship?
I was really impressed of how kind and friendly all my colleagues are. I was warmly welcomed and I got the impression that I could ask anybody anything. It is helping me a lot, and makes the work go much easier.

Furthermore, I was not aware that almost all email communications were performed in English. At the beginning, I was a bit overwhelmed by this challenge, but now I really enjoy writing and talking in English and I even have the chance to improve my Spanish when I call colleagues in Spain or Latin America. I appreciate and enjoy this international atmosphere and the mixture of different cultures.

What is the first thing that comes to your mind, when I ask you about the people at Henkel?
I am working in Hamburg, not in Düsseldorf, so I am mostly in contact with “Schwarzkopf Professionals”. But every time I call Düsseldorf I get to know kind, helpful people who truly make an effort to assist me. Therefore I view the people at Henkel as great team players.

Besides the job itself, what do you value that Henkel offers its interns?
For me as someone about to graduate, the intern alumni program at Henkel is very interesting. Due to the fact that Henkel and its employees are really interested in their interns, they stay in contact with good interns also after they leave. One of the most important values at Henkel is the great appreciation that interns experience here.

How was your development during your internship – who or what influenced it?
I just started my internship one month ago – right now, I cannot rate my development yet. There is so much going on and I am just learning the ropes. So ask me again in 3 months, and then you will get a proper answer.

Would you do it again?
Definitely! I am really looking forward to going to work every day and it makes me proud.
