Putting R&D into ethnic hair
Henkel Beauty Care South Africa opened a new Beauty Care Research & Development (R&D) laboratory in Midrand, an area in central Gauteng Province.
Ethnic hair is structurally different from other hair types. It can be fuzzy, frizzy or relaxed, very dry and therefore difficult to style. The R&D laboratory aims to change this by addressing salons’ and consumers’ diverse needs with targeted products.
The new location, which combines the Schwarzkopf Smooth ‘N Shine and Ladine Professional facilities, has been chosen to support continuous product development for both brands. The new laboratory brings together Henkel Beauty Care’s advanced technologies and standards as well as the expertise of local R&D specialists.
The laboratory focuses on creating synergies between its highly successful formulas, local solutions and its experts’ in-depth market knowledge. During the development and testing stages, it also caters to customers in central Africa and beyond. The result is high-quality, specialized hair-care products developed in Africa for Africa.
This facility represents a significant step forward for ethnic hair-care products. It is part of Beauty Care’s commitment to customers in South Africa, as well as on the African continent.
