Special Olympics Connecticut awards Henkel Corporation bronze medal for continued support
Approximately 1,000 athletes participated in the 2017 Special Olympics Connecticut (SOCT) Winter Games, held March 4-5, to test their athletic skills in floor hockey, cross-country skiing and snow-shoeing. Joining the athletes were more than 20 employees from Henkel Corporation who cheered on the athletes and manned tables promoting healthy lifestyles at two event locations.
At the Rethink Your Drink table, a part of SOCT’s Health Promotion effort, Henkel volunteers educated athletes on the importance of healthy drink choices through fun activities, such as a flavored water taste testing and a spin-the-wheel game. Throughout the day, volunteers also provided encouragement to the athletes and cheered on their efforts.
Since 2011, Henkel has been a Bronze sponsor and supporter of the SOCT bi-annual games, with employees putting forth hundreds of volunteer hours, and the company providing approximately $10,000 in contributions annually. For the 2017 Winter Games, employees volunteered 170 hours, and Henkel provided a $5,000 sponsorship and donations of some of its most popular personal care products, including Dial® body wash and hand sanitizer, RIGHT GUARD® deodorant and Dry Idea® deodorant. In recognition of Henkel’s continued and increasing support, the company was honored with a Bronze sponsorship award during the Opening Ceremony.
