Today’s advanced driver assistance systems ‏(ADAS) are increasing demand for high-resolution camera designs that can focus with ever greater accuracy. The perfected functioning of ADAS and thus the reliability of the camera or LiDAR ensure driver safety. As a longstanding partner to the automotive industry, Henkel is continuing to develop new adhesives for lens bonding in ADAS sensors, specifically designed to meet these next generation demands.

Henkel has launched an innovative new dual cure adhesive specifically designed for bonding applications in automotive ADAS cameras and LiDAR modules. Using a unique UV cationic thermal dual cure epoxy, Loctite Ablestik NCA 3218 offers an ideal solution for applications such as lens barrel-to-housing and lens housing-to-circuit board bonding.

Henkel’s third Sustainability Days virtual conference once again proved an essential event for the global packaging and consumer goods industry. Held from November 30 to December 1, Sustainability Days 2022 brought together 1,500 attendees from 650 companies and 81 countries to discuss the industry’s response to urgent sustainability needs. Expert speakers from Henkel and companies such as Amcor, Covestro, Equanimator, Touch Design and CJ Korea addressed topics such as the circular economy, reducing the environmental footprint of products and packaging, and emerging regulatory challenges.

Henkel and IGNIS, the Spanish integrated renewable energy group, have signed a ten-year Virtual Power Purchase Agreement ‏(VPPA) relating to two new solar power plants in Spain. Henkel’s portion of the produced electricity equals the demand of more than 40 production sites of the company in Europe.

Henkel, a global leader of adhesives, sealants and functional coatings, and leading manufacturer of well-known consumer brands, celebrated the expansion of its operations in Salisbury, North Carolina. This expansion of Henkel’s existing site brings a new 10,000 square foot, state-of-the-art production area for UV-curable acrylic pressure sensitive adhesives ‏(PSA) and broadens the company’s capabilities to provide more sustainable and innovative PSA solutions to the tape, label, medical, and graphics films markets to meet increasing demand.

Henkel today announced the commercialization of a high-performance non-conductive die attach film ‏(ncDAF) engineered to address the demands of contemporary packaging device designs. Loctite Ablestik ATB 125GR is a high-reliability ncDAF suitable for wirebond laminate and lead frame packages, compatible with small- to medium-sized die, and formulated to provide excellent workability and processability.

Henkel and cyclos-HTP Institute ‏(CHI), a company specialized in the classification, assessment and certification of recyclability of packaging and goods, have announced a strategic partnership. This partnership brings together two vital components of the packaging and consumer goods value chain – adhesives and coatings and downstream recycling expertise. By working together, both companies make the creation of sustainable packaging and consumer goods solutions as accessible and simplified as possible for all stakeholders along the value chain. The partnership will give customers a more comprehensive and aligned service offering through the combined know-how of the two companies.

Henkel has set a new strategic course for its corporate venture capital activities in the consumer goods business after the company has generated a second 150-million-euro fund earlier this year. The company’s venturing unit Henkel dx Ventures focuses its activities on a strong and future-oriented strategy. It partners with start-ups for co-innovation and invests in promising ventures globally in two defined focus areas, which are digital commerce and sustainability.

As the rise of e-commerce continues apace, there is an equally intense drive to discover more sustainable and recyclable packaging materials. By making paper a viable option for one-time shipping materials EPIX technology from Henkel has been a key breakthrough. As well as replacing multi-substrate mailers with recyclable mono-materials, EPIX padded mailers offer increased functionality, adding impact resistance without an increase in packaging weight. Now, the innovative mailer solution has received a further certification from the Institute cyclos-HTP, confirming its compatibility with sorting and recycling systems in the EU, Switzerland, Norway and the UK. The solution had already achieved How2Recycle ‏(USA) and OPRL ‏(UK) certification.

On November 15, Henkel welcomed over 60 medical technology thought leaders and innovators to new Inspiration Center Düsseldorf ‏(ICD).  The event, entitled ‘Growing the Healthcare Ecosystem’, was designed to foster conversation and spark ideas among some of the most talented and knowledgeable specialists in the med-tech sector.
