“Open Innovation and collaboration with external research partners are enablers of Henkel’s innovation strategy,” explains Dr. Michael Todd, Global Head of Innovation and Henkel’s sponsor of the award. “Working with organizations such as the American Chemical Society provides Henkel with insights into future technologies that may play a role in shaping our development projects of the future.”

Nominees are judged based on their contribution to the thesis research, the quality and level of innovation demonstrated, and the impact of the research on the science of synthetic polymers or biopolymers. Zhukhovitskiy’s research was especially applicable to adhesion promotion and gel adhesive technologies. As the winner, Zhukhovitskiy received a $2,000 honorarium, commemorative plaque, and expense-paid travel to the symposium. Read more about the award and past recipients.
