Collaboration in Origin´s open platform and presentation of novel 3D Printing material solutions for the medical sector at MDM West

Henkel and Origin to partner for additive manufacturing at scale

To further drive the adoption of 3D Printing technologies beyond prototyping to final parts production Henkel has joined Origin´s open materials platform. The companies have signed an agreement to combine Henkel´s materials expertise with Origin´s printer and software know-how. The partnership has already resulted in novel 3D Printing solutions for the medical sector which will be showcased during the upcoming MDM West event.

Henkel aims to further drive additive manufacturing towards the mass production of functional parts across various industries. The company launched a differentiated platform of next-generation resins during the Formnext in November 2018. By joining Origin´s open materials platform Henkel will further intensify the development of customized materials for 3D Printing solutions of final parts.

“Our engineering resins respond to some of the most severe limitations for additive manufacturing at scale,” explained Philipp Loosen, Head of 3D Printing at Henkel. “We have determined that Origin´s novel programmable photopolymerization technology (P3) offers a complementary technology for our high-performance materials. The partnership has a huge potential to enable a wide range of our resin portfolio for use in additive mass production, especially in the health and wellness sector.”

Henkel and Origin will showcase some of their novel silicone-based 3D printed parts during this year´s leading medical design and manufacturing trade show (MDM West) from February 5th to 7th in Anaheim, CA. The parent silicone resins have been tested to Henkel’s protocols based upon ISO-10993 biocompatibility standards. The potential applications range from medical devices and surgery tools to pre-surgical models, hearing aids, face masks, and others. The innovative solutions for the medical sector will be presented at the Henkel booth, No. 2919.

About Origin

Based in San Francisco, CA, Origin is an open platform for additive mass production. The company has worked with a network of material partners for over a year to develop a wide range of commercial grade materials for its system, resulting in some of the toughest and most resilient materials in additive manufacturing, at prices and print speeds that enable high volume production. Origin’s open approach is designed to address the demand for better materials and the customization required by manufacturing partners looking to push 3D printing as a technology for mass production. The company was founded in 2015 and is led by alumni from Google and Apple. Investors include Floodgate, DCM, Mandra Capital, Haystack, Stanford University, and Joe Montana.
