One-component sealant combines fluid resistance and long-term reliability with simple, flexible processing

Henkel launches Loctite MS 9810 for sealing performance in critical automotive applications

Automotive manufacturers face increasing requirements for sealant performance in advanced vehicle assemblies such as combustion engines, electric drivetrains, transmissions, axles and electronic unit housings. These components are often exposed to high temperatures, fluids and movement during operation, while they must also be able to adapt to increasingly efficient manufacturing processes.

To assist with these challenges, Henkel is launching Loctite MS 9810, a one-component MS Polymer formed-in-place gasketing sealant. Suitable for highly demanding automotive applications – including flange sealing to prevent fluid leakage – Loctite MS 9810 is non-permeable to hydrocarbons and maintains seal integrity when exposed to hot oils or powertrain fluids.

In addition, the product offers excellent joint movement tolerance, an easy-to-use no-mix formulation, and a range of sustainability and safety benefits.

Reliable sealing performance meets simple, safe formulation

As a formed-in-place gasketing sealant, Loctite MS 9810 can be applied directly to components to create custom sealing solutions for complex automotive parts. As a one-component formulation, it requires no mixing, helping reduce process complexity and associated material waste.

Loctite MS 9810 cures through contact with moisture in the air and therefore can cure at room temperature without additional heat application. Low-air-pressure leak testing can be performed before the material has cured, thanks to its heavy body viscosity, making it easier for manufacturers to optimize application and ensure issue-free performance. Loctite MS 9810 is also highly compatible with other chemistries, including Bergquist Gap Fillers, further optimizing its process flexibility and utility.

Once cured, Loctite MS 9810 performs reliably in many applications including flange sealing for engines, e-motors, transmissions and axle assemblies, metal and plastic covers, electronic component housings, and applications requiring oil- or water-glycol-resistant sealing. With its resistance to fluids and hydrocarbons, it can keep powertrains protected and safeguard long-term engine performance.

Loctite MS 9810 also deploys a non-silicone formulation, helping minimize silicone contamination concerns, and oxime-free chemistry, ensuring suitability for sensitive substrates and compliance with high safety standards.

Staying ahead of evolving automotive requirements

Loctite MS 9810 extends Henkel´s sealant portfolio designed to meet a wide range of performance and processing needs, particularly for automotive companies looking to support the next generation of vehicles.

“Automotive manufacturers continue to look for sustainable sealing solutions that combine robust fluid resistance, process simplicity and long-term durability. Loctite MS 9810 addresses these requirements with a one-component MS Polymer technology designed to support reliable sealing performance in powertrain and electronic housing applications,” says Dr. Rainer Schoenfeld, Global Market Strategy Director for Exterior, Powertrain, Interior and Chassis at Henkel.

“The product was developed to help customers meet increasingly demanding sealing requirements in powertrain applications without hazardous ingredients. It provides an effective solution for modern automotive manufacturing,” says Erwin Rauh, Senior Business Development Manager for ICE, Powertrain and Chassis at Henkel.
