Annual Report 2025
incl. Sustainability Statement
Businesses are feeling the impact of climate change. In the energy and water industries, key pieces of infrastructure like pipes or storage tanks face new challenges from shifting rainfall patterns, bigger temperature fluctuations and stronger winds. Henkel’s wide-ranging portfolio of Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) products is helping to make sure infrastructure stays secure and reliable – while saving costs, protecting the environment and enabling significant contributions to sustainability.
Our planet’s climate is changing. The energy and water industries are changing too. In the first half of 2025, for example, renewable energy overtook coal as the world's leading source of electricity for the first time ever. That means larger-than-ever numbers of solar panels, wind turbines and hydroelectric power plants are now operating around the globe.
Maintenance and repairs play a big role in making sure equipment that generates renewable energy continues to operate safely and efficiently. By taking timely steps to strengthen seals or patch up damage caused by wear and tear in harsh conditions, businesses can maximize performance and minimize downtime by preventing problems before they happen. And sustainable innovations from Henkel make that possible – for almost every application.
Get to know some of our market-leading MRO technologies that are cutting costs and ensuring safety for infrastructure in the energy and water industries…
You might not think about it very often, but pieces of infrastructure make big contributions to everyday life. Pipes carry water for drinking and washing. Turbines generate energy to heat homes and provide electricity. And rail and road bridges enable people and products to move freely from place to place. But infrastructure often faces tough conditions.
Offshore wind turbines, for example, get blasted by strong gales and sprayed by saltwater throughout their operational lifetime. The resulting corrosion and other damage must be tackled to make sure turbines can keep doing their job safely for many decades. Advanced coatings from the EasyQote product range make that possible.
~7.5 %
of annual operating costs are generated by maintenance activities.
>50 %
of water in Mexico is lost through leaks in damaged pipes. 1
~10 %
reduction in maintenance costs through AI-enabled monitoring systems like LOCTITE Pulse
EasyQote is a self-adhering coating for protecting and repairing metal surfaces. Engineered wraps / patches format, adhere onto pipes, wind turbines and bridges to form a barrier against moisture, salt and other corrosive elements. It’s ultra-fast to apply because, unlike standard coatings, there’s no need for primers or extensive surface preparation. That makes it an ideal fit for hard-to-reach areas. The product is also made from medical-grade polymers, so it’s non-toxic and completely safe for workers as well as the environment. And it achieves up to 30 years of protection, which saves resources by extending the service life of infrastructure.
Temperature fluctuations pose significant risks to industrial assets. Thermal loss through the equipment because of these damages can push up costs and increase CO2 emissions by making it necessary to replace lost heat. That’s why demand for proper insulation systems is rising as companies strive to save money and time on maintenance while complying with regulations. But traditional insulation, like mineral wool covered with aluminum jacketing, can create long-term issues with a short lifespan prior to replacement.
Mascoat insulative coatings from Henkel offer a solution to the challenges of traditional insulation. This one-part, water-based technology is sprayed directly to the substrate (primer required for ferrous materials) to form a seamless membrane that reduces heat loss, prevents moisture intrusion and protects workers – for 20 years or more. It’s simple to apply, with smaller crew sizes and equipment needs. By combining thermodynamics with modern technology, Mascoat experts have developed the capability to estimate the coating’s thermal performance before any material is applied. This allows customers to gain a firsthand understanding of how the product would perform under their specific conditions.
Pipes that carry water for drinking, hydroelectric power or other purposes also operate under extreme conditions. Penstock pipes, for example, transport vast quantities of water at high levels of pressure. They need to be incredibly tough and durable, while damage must be repaired effectively to avoid expensive leaks – particularly in locations where water is scarce.
Innovative and sustainable technologies from Henkel’s LifeLast brand make a measurable positive contribution to water management infrastructure. Applied via multi-component spray equipment, they extend the service life of water pipes and storage tanks by forming a flexible and resilient layer that stops rust, cracking, corrosion and weather damage. In this way, LifeLast reduces water leaks and improves safety by preserving the integrity of the pipeline.
