Less rework, faster cycle times

Celebrating its 150th anniversary, Henkel will showcase its latest adhesive solutions at SICAM in Pordenone, Italy, under the motto “Future? Ready!”. As a process partner to furniture and component manufacturers, the company is presenting new products from different technology groups: the Technomelt PUR 260/x ME family, tailored to the kitchen and bathroom furniture industry, Technomelt KS 928 for feed speeds ranging from 10 to over 50 metres per minute, and Technomelt PUR 6258, a reactive hot-melt adhesive for profile wrapping. 

Adhesive rarely accounts for more than one per cent of the product mass of a furniture component. However, its impact on cycle time and material yield is significant. Henkel therefore supports manufacturers from adhesive selection to production optimisation. Integrating the adhesive, substrate and manufacturing steps from the outset reduces production costs and ensures the longevity of the final product.

The true resilience of an adhesive bond is demonstrated in the kitchen and bathroom, where steam, temperature fluctuations and constant humidity are the norm. The Technomelt PUR 260x ME family was developed specifically for these conditions as a PUR hot-melt adhesive for edge banding. Containing less than 0.1 per cent free diisocyanates, the micro-emission adhesive is exempt from the mandatory REACH training requirements for industrial and professional users. The operating conditions in furniture production vary widely: from small businesses with a feed rate of 10 metres per minute to industrial lines exceeding 50 metres. Technomelt KS 928 is a polypropylene-based thermoplastic hot-melt adhesive, suitable for everything from small workshops to industrial plants. Using a single product for both environments reduces the variety of items in stock and therefore lowers storage costs. Lower processing temperatures and reduced application weights save energy and material.

Profile wrapping places specific demands on the adhesive: for example, thermoplastic foils below 0.5 mm with low to medium memory forces require reliable bonding from the first contact. Technomelt PUR 6258 is a reactive hot-melt adhesive developed for precisely this application, with broad suitability across furniture production. Reduced adhesive consumption through low coat weights contributes directly to lower production costs without compromising process reliability.
